Do you ever find yourself with 7 days until an event, and suddenly wanting to look and feel your best and wish you had started sooner? In my case, it’s an upcoming trip to Las Ventanas in Mexico that has me wanting to eat salad and spin everyday until I get there. However, I’ve been reading Tony Robbins and one of his simple premises is modeling. So in this case, I needed to 1) Find one of my friends that is fit 2) Ask her what she does 3) Do what she does.
In this case, it’s my friend Amy who lost 50 lbs and has kept it off for nearly 15 years. She isn’t a professional in the health field, but she has “been there” and lives and breathes fitness everyday. Here was her advice:
Day #1: Don’t think about it. Get up and go for a 15 minute walk. If you live somewhere that you can actually go for a hike, all the better. Urban hiking in LA isn’t easy, but lots of people swear by Runyan Canyon.
Day #2: Go to a class so you can be around other people and get motivated by them. I personally love the energy of Barry’s Boot Camp.
Day #3: Go for a walk or take a class, and cut out the refined sugar.
Day #4: Go for a walk or hike or maybe walk on the sand (at least 30 minutes)
Day #5: Concentrate on portion control. Take a plate, and fill 1/2 of it with veggies, 1/2 with a healthy complex carb (no more than a cup) and 1/4 with protein (about the size of your fist).
Day #6: Weigh in and walk, hike or take a class.
Day #7: Take the day off
Of course, we always advise that you check in with your doctor before beginning any fitness routine and adhere to all that usual fitness disclaimer stuff.
