Happy Glamorous New Year!

We love a New Year … all shiny and new and full of promise, don’t you?  Last year was a very special year for us, it was the year Vanity Girl Hollywood was born.   And we had a GREAT response. I will never forget my first sale.  It was a glamour girl out of Ohio named Crystal M. who bought a vanity when all we had was our EBay Store and this blog.  So Crystal, if you are reading this, Big XOXO’s

A lot of you have said that you searched everywhere for a mirror like this, and have asked me how the idea came about.   So I thought I’d share a little of the back story.

I was sitting at the Burke Williams on Sunset Boulevard after a day of pampering (massage, facial, etc) and was getting ready.  With the lighted mirrors, and little holsters for the blow dryers and tufted seating – I was in heaven.  It was the perfect finishing touch to a day of “me time.”  And I thought, “I want one of these for my home.”  And I knew I couldn’t be the only girly girl out there who wanted this same backstage experience everyday.

And just like that, the idea for Vanity Girl Hollywood was born.  Luckily, I had people who believed in the concept and supported me in so many different ways.  So this darling Vanity Girls, are my hopes for you in 2010.

  1. Dream Big. Follow your passions and put some elbow grease behind it.  Jet Setter?  Celebrity Make Up Artist?  Philanthropist Extraordinaire?  Head Cheerleader?  Glee Club Diva?
  2. Share. So many times, we feel embarrassed to tell others what we’re dreaming.  Do it.  You’ll be surprised at how many people will rally behind you and support you.
  3. Get Up. 2009 was a time of some pretty big knock-downs for me, including getting laid off after 11 years at a career I cared deeply about and a really big break-up.  But I had to get up, and things are definitely getting better.  It was like, simultaneously the best and worst year of my life.  So when you get knocked down, and you will, put on your mascara and get up.  I surprised my own self with my resilience and ability to have new dreams.  Those will get you out of bed.
  4. Feel Good. I just noticed that when I’m happy things seem to flow better.  I mean think about it, who wants to hang out with Debbie Downer.  So do what you need to do to feel good, and then get on with yourself.
  5. Listen to Actions. Not just the words, including your own.  Actions will truly show you what someone is thinking, or what you are doing.
  6. Pourquoi Pas? French for, “why not?”  Sometimes your inner voice is just a whisper.  Listen for it and before you think of all the reasons it can’t be done, whisper back, “Pourquoi Pas?”

As always, I’d love to hear from you Vanity Girls.  What resolutions do you have for 2010?  What lessons did you learn in 2009?  Your words may just help a sister Vanity Girl out.  We are our own little community of gals who believe that glamour and feeling our best is a necessity.  We do our part, everyday, to make the world a more beautiful place.

xoxo,

M
