So, one of the coolest things about starting your own gig is that it becomes an extension of you and the way you see the world. For some of you, it’s the blogs and YOUTube videos you are creating (which I will be sharing here as well … lots of you have been writing about us and putting us on your “must have” lists)
You get to share your personality, your vision, your own voice. I really started Vanity Girl Hollywood because I wanted every gal to feel a little bit of Hollywood glamour in their life. A place to call their own, to put their best face forward. Why shouldn’t you feel like a supermodel or starlet in your own home? After all, you are the leading lady in your own life.

Another really cool thing is the people you meet – the kindred souls who view the world a bit like you. And they can only do this when you put your vision out there and shine your light for others to see. Yes, it can be a little scary. Like I used to think, “Will anyone really buy this? Will people judge me? Will people think it’s just shallow to celebrate vanity and make up? Blah Blah Blah.” Then I met really amazing women, beautiful from the inside out who were smart and caring and ambitious, etc and YES, loved makeup. Girly girls with a mission. I call them Vanity Girls.
To me, a Vanity Girl is someone who cultivates beauty from the inside out. Yes, it’s about the makeup we put on – but it’s also about the people we love. The people we inspire and who inspire us. I always saw this as a community of gals who make the world a more beautiful place … one face and one heart at at time.
This was evident when you shared your Valentine’s Day plans with us. The cupcakes you baked for your husbands. The special dinners you made for your boyfriends. The little sisters that you watched movies with and played “dress up/makeup” with. The single girls who wooped it up with their wingchicks over cocktails. Those of you who, like me, may still be healing a broken heart yet still believes that LOVE IS POSSIBLE.
This post by Kandee Johnson talks about the discount we are offering to her fans. But it’s so much more than that. Bottom line, Kandee is such a great example of what a Vanity Girl is to me. Someone beautiful from the inside out, who inspires others and gets up and puts a glamtastic game face on when life gets a little bumpy. And it will. And it’s clear that her light, her ability to put it out there has inspired so many to shine their lights as well.
I texted her today that whenever she posts about us we have a “Kandee Krash.” It’s kinda like a sugar crash. Many of you already know this. Our server literally couldn’t handle the spike in traffic from all her fans whenever she does a blog post. So, we’ve been busy at work trying to find a server that will grow with us.
So, dear Vanity Girls, we’d love to hear from you. Tell us what city you’re in. Tell us what makes you beautiful from the inside out. Or tell us about your favorite Vanity Girls. Maybe it’s your Mom who taught you how to put on your makeup at her vanity. Maybe it’s your little sister who let you know that NO! Your butt does not look big in those jeans. Maybe it’s Marilyn Monroe or Audrey Hepburn for their timeless glam. Maybe it’s Kandee for teaching you how to create gorgeous looks and inspiring you everyday. Maybe it’s me for making Hollywood-style vanities that you can have in your own home! (hahaha!) Seriously, I hope it’s YOU for the being the strong, creative and beautiful woman you are.
Thank you for doing your part to make the world a more beautiful place. One gorgeously made up face and open heart at at time.

MAXINE!! I love Vanity Girl and the cause you’ve built behind it! The importance of a sisterhood such as this one is unparallel and has the power to move mountains, mend hearts and build bridges!
My mother is definitely my favorite vanity girl! I remember her so vividly sitting in front of her vanity talking to me from behind her eyebrow curler. It was our most intimate time together as mother and daughter… and I cherish it still! Thanks so much for prompting me to remember that and for teaching me that vanity is a good thing! We’re not selfish, we’re self-nurturing!!!
You’re THE BEST Maxine! ..Keep the nostalgia comin’!!!
Maxine,
I can’t thank you enough for making such a wonderful product. For a girl like me who has lived her entire life being told how ordinary she is, the chance to look into a mirror and feel extraordinary is a feeling that no one can take away. I can remember sitting on my bathroom counter when I was little, watching my older sister put on her makeup, hoping that one day I’d be as glamorous as she is. According to society, bigger girls like me aren’t beautiful. We aren’t glamorous, we’re nothing special. I used to believe that… until I found Kandee. She sparked my interest in makeup. She showed me how to feel beautiful from the inside out. She’s one of the few people who encouraged me to go for my dreams and said “yes you can” when all I’ve ever heard is “no”. Her videos and blogs make me laugh and cry and everything in between. I watch a least one Kandee video everyday and the second her intro music starts, it’s like the sun is rising a second time each day. It’s also people like you who refuse to let life get you down. You didn’t give up when things got tough. You instead saw a need for change and you created the start of the solution. Like I’ve said before, Vanity Girl isn’t just a mirror, it’s a philosophy. The idea that we can all be the Starlets of our own lives. I’ve been saving parts of each paycheck so that I can finally get my Starlet Mirror. I keep one of your business cards taped to my bedroom door so that everytime I leave, I see it and it motivates me. I’ve always loved Marilyn Monroe’s style. It’s like she gave us the beginning of the blue print for all things that are beautiful. It’s up to us to fill in the rest. All the makeup in the world can’t make up for inner beauty. But with the right lighting, with the right tips from Guru’s like Kandee and when you believe in yourself, inner beauty can be brought forward with a dab of lipgloss, a hint of blush, and a sparkle in your eye. Thank you for being a part of the blue print of my life.
All the best,
LeslieAnn
