So, one of the hottest magazines around named Kandee as one of their favorite girls in Hollywood. Vanity was the order of the day, as she did her own private photo shoot the day before that magazine shoot. And it was really fun to be onset with her and her amazing glam squad. Of course, she’s the guru behind her makeup magic but she also assembled a team of great talent who helped take her look to the next level. It was a long night, 6 p.m. till 1 a.m., but that’s how long it takes to get a really great shoot together.
Dressing the tresses was Thelma Macias from Barracuda Salon on Melrose, right up the street from my place. She was like the crimp master, playing with some different colored strands as well but you’ll have to wait to see those. BTW, I love the NYC necklace that Kandee is wearing. So fun, and just gets me more excited that Sex and the City 2 is coming out. Dontcha just love the white and gold that you’ve been seeing Carrie wear in some of the ads?
Speaking of gold, on styling was the fabulous Cosmo! He walked in rocking an amazing gold purse … we DIED just a little. Obsessed with that purse. What’s great about working with Cosmo is that he has styled some of the biggest celebs and is a wealth of Melrose Avenue history, but you can also purchase what he styles at his retail store Speed on Melrose. How awesome is that?
Watching these two work together is a serious reality show in and of itself. You know how on Project Runway Nina and Michael are always talking about a designer having a point of view? Well, Cosmo and Kandee have a similar point of view when it comes to clothing, as in “more is better.” And I love it. It’s so over the top and fun. Here’s the video from when they first met.
One of the other things that I always thought would be really luxurious is to have someone come to your house/hotel for mani. My friend JR says it is so awesome to do in Boracay, and my other friend Ava says when she is at her family compound in Nigeria, her manicurist is the bomb-diggity. Like your feet are so baby soft you won’t even want to walk on them. Well guess what? You can experience that too here in Hollywood. Kymberly Newble, gave Kandee such a fun pink and white mani … and she will deliver this luxury to your home or hotel. I think I have to have a girls pamper partay soon!
And are you loving the jewelry? It was so awesome, like luxury medieval pieces that can be found at www.glynnethbjewelry.com. I think I overheard Cosmo saying that the jewelry was going to be featured at his store Speed as well. And there are some pretty glam celebs that are loving her jewelry as well.
And the photos were taken by Marc Cartwright in a great downtown space. I’ve seen other photographers work, and was really impressed by Marc’s vision and quiet direction. Like he totally knew what he wanted to see in his lens, plus he’s really easy on the eyes himself. Super great … so if you are in the market for some beautiful photos of yourself, get thee to Marc. We were teasing him that he must have given up a modeling career to become a photographer.
Of course, some of the funnest photos are the behind-the-scenes shots, so here are a few. I took this one toward the end of the night on Kandee’s iPhone. This was her last costume change. Her iPhone is so much newer than mine (check out my fuzzy grainy picture above of her and Cosmo – dropped mine one too many times). If you’ve ever done the one-handed iPhone picture taking thing, you know this takes a little time to master.
Anyway, here’s a link to Kandee’s Post. I love how she inspires everyone to rock their own style. We can’t agree more. Bright color? Do it. 80′s obsession? Rock it. All black Parisian chic? Pourquoi Pas. Brazilian Beach girl? Hip hop honey? Luxury Diva? All of the above? Sure. Why stay in one box. You can change your mind tomorrow. That’s the beauty of makeup and clothing, it’s just an expression of what you are feeling in the moment. It can be changed on a whim.
Finally, here’s a little checklist for your own Hollywood-style photo shoot:
- Great photographer
- Studio/location space (fun props!)
- Makeup Artist
- Clothing stylist, outfit changes (2 – 4 looks is great)
- Jewelry
- Art director (someone has to have the vision, can also be the photographer, stylist, yourself or a collaboration)
- Hair sytlist
- Manicurist
- Support from people who love you and think you are GORGEOUS
- Awesome music
- Easy snacks (nuts, raw bars, etc)
- Of course, perfect lighting and mirrors
So yes, photo shoots can cost a lot of money . BUT, we all know creative and talented friends and family who can put something together using the above as a mini outline. Send us some pics of what you achieve, we’d love to hear about it! Or post them on our Facebook Page.

Kandee needs to be on the runway she is very beautiful and very talented.
She should show the world her beauty……..among her positive side.
She is very informative in her beauty experience………………and she deserves more than instructing as a make up artist.
=)
She is so gorgeous, maybe even more so in person!
