The Vampire Vanities aka our Starlet mirror.

I am a huge fan of vampires. It began once upon a time, long long ago watching Buffy The Vampire Slayer with my mom on the couch in South Bay, California. Watching the tortured love between Buffy and Angel, watching Sarah Michelle Gellar kick butt convincingly despite her size 0 frame. And let me tell you, I still smile to myself when I see David Boreanaz at my gym, or Eliza Dushku at my hair salon.
And last night, while I was at the Warren Tricomi Luxe Beauty Team launch event something else awesome was happening for Vanity Girl Hollywood. The episode with our Starlet vanities aired! It was on “Miss Mystic Falls” and there is Elena and her aunt having a heart to heart talk while her aunt does her hair in front of our lighted Starlet vanity mirror. That’s what we thought about too when we made it. We learn so much from the women who came before us – an aunt, a grandmother, a mother — in front of a mirror, learning about beauty and life. It’s a way to bond. When I was 8, I was a terrible nail biter and my mom would give me manicures at our kitchen table. Flash forward years later when she had cancer, I gave her manicures as a simple, way that I might make her feel a little better. I don’t want to get too serious here, but my point is more that these beauty rituals are often a way that we express our love for each other – a right of passage. A common thread. I guess I’m thinking of her a lot more with Mother’s Day coming up – I miss her lots and I really hope she’s proud of me.

On a lighter note, I’m happy to see that vampires have once again made a resurgence. As Dan Humprey said on Gossip Girl a couple of weeks ago, “Vampires are the ultimate bad boy.” Riiiiiiigggghhhhht? I’m forever 8th grade, and proudly so. Twilight, Vampire Diaries and True Blood have taken my insatiable thirst for vampires to the next level.
So right now, my favorite bad boy vamp is Damon Salvatorre. Just in case you were wondering.

Love it! Thanks so much for your reviews, they have definitely helped me make decisions! Also, I was watching Vampire Diaries last night and they were totally using those mirrors in one of the scenes. I had my husband pause it and was telling him how ‘cool’ they are and that I think it would be a great investment lol. We’ll see…
