Luxury manicurist Kymberly Newble invited me to the VIP launch of Luxe Beauty Team to include nails, lashes, eyebrow threading, makeup applications. Hello, pamper much? I picked up my girlfriend, celebrity makeup artist Kenetia Lee and off we went — luckily it’s literally right up the street from both of us at 8327 Melrose Avenue.
Kenetia and I got our makeup done by Daniela Hernandez, and she did a smokey eye and flawless skin. Pretty. She recommends Giorgio Armani Foundation or Kevin Aucoin’s liquid airbrush for foundation that doesn’t really look like makeup. Like you can wear it during the day at a barbeque. She told me that my skin color is an 11 or 12. She also recommends Aucoin’s precision eybrow pencil.
Which was so convenient, because we then met Dawn Lucas, excective with Kevin Aucoin. We know we lost a great talent but what an amazing legacy he has left because the brand is still strong and gets raves from makeup artists. Kenetia also loves his makeup, and plans to use it on her client 2007 Miss USA Rachel Smith, and now host of ABC7′s On The Red Carpet.
On hair giving me some very cool curls was Whitney Olson. In addition to her hair skills, she herself is like a publicist/stylist. She has lots of fab clients, and is genuinely excited to see women launching their businesses and following their dreams. She also strongly encouraged us to get involved in some of Warren Tricomi’s Red Carpet gifting suites for young Hollywood. Speaking of publicists, PR gal Cara Maiman Hilfer of Clover (who also knows social media guruette Christine Kirk @luxuryprgal who got me involved as Girls In Tech sponsor of the Beauty Fashion summit — which also served as our launch party back in April 2009) introduced me to salon owner Kaz Amor who has some very clever ideas about vanities and professional makeup mirrors for the salon. It’s really a small world here in LA, because my new gal pal, Rebecca East of the Hollywood Agency had actually worked with Kaz and Joel when they launched the salon. (BTW, did you catch the episode of Jerseylicious when Warren Tricomi NYC gives the girls a makeunder? Apparently they are rocking it out from coast to coast.)
I was also so happy to see my girlfriend and celebrity makeup artist, the always bubbly Kandee Johnson. Geez, she had a serious accident in her hotel (like horror movie worthy stuff OMG OMG OMG), but she was still there, gorgeously made up and rocking high heels. That is a serious Vanity Girl, looking her best no matter what.
All in all, it was a great event here on Melrose Avenue. It’s always so much fun for me to go to beauty and fashion events, because this is obviously a community that embraces what I do. They love this concept of every gal throughout American and Canada having the opportunity to have a little piece of Hollywood glamour. It’s so validating to hear that — and to see people get excited about what began as, “Wouldn’t it be cool to have those Hollywood style vanity tables in your own home?”
In short, definitely get thee to this salon if you want a Hollywood makeover in one super glam stop. And then hop in your car go a little East on Melrose to go shopping for edgy clothing, or go west and turn left on Robertson for the Ivy and upscale boutique shopping.
And while we were having fun at this launch party, the episode of CW’s “The Vampire Diaries” featured a scene with a few of our off-white Starlet Vanities. How cool is that? It was really fun to come to that on TiVo. Read about that here.
